Heart Failure Symptom Monitoring Training Study
Opportunity
Would you like to take part in a study testing an educational method to help you monitor your heart failure symptoms?
What am I being asked to do?
You will be randomly assigned to receive the usual education for heart failure or the usual education plus extra training.
The extra training includes added symptom training and a follow-up home visit one week later. A self-paced 6 minute walk test is part of the training. The purpose of the brief home visit is to answer any questions and review the training.
Four telephone interviews at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months will be scheduled. Five questionnaires about your symptoms and self-care will be repeated. You will also be asked about emergency contact with your doctor and hospital admissions. The interviews take 15-20 minutes.
You will be given a weight scale to keep. You will be paid $20 at 6 months and $20 at 12 months when you complete the telephone interviews.
