So many of our readers have shown an interest in our animal pages, I thought we should share some  examples of how EFT helps pets.

Anyone who knows animals understands that they are very sensitive to the subtle energies around them. There are many wonderful stories of animal heroism and uncanny abilities to warn of impending disasters. We also know that some animals can detect illness in humans such as cancers and epilepsy.

Unfortunately, our animal friends can also develop illnesses and sustain traumas. One veterinarian advised that some animals can show signs of mental disorders from anxiety to psychosis!

While there are a number of practitioners of EFT whose main work is with animals, anyone can learn to use the technique and apply it to a specific problem to ease their pet's discomforts. You don't have to be a "pet psychic" to be effective. Your love for your pet and some empathy will go a long way to guide you.

Gracie

Our Gracie is a beagle we rescued almost seven years ago. She was an "older dog" then, with enough of a difficult history that she feared men. Thankfully, she warmed to my daughter who first discovered her, and then to me when I went to finalize the adoption. We had lost a beloved dog about three months earlier and looked forward to sharing our home with this gentle creature.

From the start, Gracie had some big obstacles to overcome. Our initial visit to the vet after bringing Gracie home seemed uneventful. He examined her and said she looked healthy enough to introduce her to our menagerie. But, about 48 hours later he called to report that her blood work revealed a heart-worm infestation. We were so alarmed he took a second test to be certain. Positive again.

He warned that she would die without treatment, but the treatment could kill her. We chose to give her a chance. She barely had time to adjust to her new home when she was scooped up and hospitalized. She survived the treatment, but then we were told to keep her quiet for at least six weeks. He said that the dying heart worms could act like blood clots and do damage to her, so she couldn't get excited. We didn't know her well enough to understand her normal behaviors, so we gave her a quiet space and hoped for the best. With time she adjusted and even stopped cowering around workmen and visitors.

Those obstacles overcome, we then learned she had allergies. Her ears developed one infection after another and she chewed unmercifully on her front paws. We took all the medical advice to heart and changed her diet, medicated her ears, drugged her with antihistamines and tried corrective measures to stop the chewing.

What we got was a sleepy dog with stinky ears and an annoying nervous habit.

Enter EFT

Although I was already using EFT personally and professionally with great success, I didn't make much headway when trying it on Gracie. I tried tapping on her and surrogately tapping on myself for her. I admit I was disappointed and sad that she wasn't responding. Most difficult for me to witness was her chewing on herself. My anxiety and annoyance would hit a 9 out of 10 because I couldn't ease her discomfort!

One night she was keeping me awake with the chewing. I then realized she was reacting to my anxiety and sadness for her. I tapped away. "Even though I feel so powerless to help her...," "Even though I am a 9 out of 10 annoyed...," "Even though I am so disappointed that she isn't enjoying her life here..."
Then for her, "Even though my ears hurt, I'm still a sweet dog." "Even though my chewing annoys people...," etc. After only a few rounds she sighed the most marvelous relaxed sigh and fell asleep!
Thankfully, so did I. Her chewing is a rare occurrence now, and the ear infections have stopped. I now know to use EFT right away to calm both of us.
